Palliative care seeks to improve the quality of life for patients with severe illnesses.
Our physicians have expertise in symptom management and communication skills.
We work to relieve distressing symptoms such as pain, nausea, agitation and breathing difficulties. In meeting with patients and families, we seek to clarify the hopes, expectations and goals of care for patients with a variety of medical
problems. Arlington Palliative Care (APC) was founded in September 2004 to provide physician leadership in the creation of an interdisciplinary palliative care program at Virginia Hospital Center.
In October 2004, in collaboration with
Virginia Hospital Center, APC formed the first hospital-based palliative care program in Northern Virginia.
